फुटबॉल में 2 टीमें होती है दोनों एक दूसरे के विपक्ष में खेलती है इस खेल को खेलने के लिए हम हाथ का इस्तेमाल नहीं कर सकते सिर्फ अपने पैरों का इस्तेमाल करके गेंद को गोल करने की कोशिश करते हैं और यदि किसी दल का गोल हो जाता है तो उसे 1 अंक प्राप्त होते हैं और समय के अंत में जिस दल का सबसे अत्यधिक अंक होता है वह यह मैच को जीत जाता है।

एक दल में स्ट्राइकर डिफेंडर मिडफील्डर और गोलकीपर होता है इन सभी खिलाड़ियों का अलग-अलग कार्य होता है जो इस खेल के नियम को प्रतिबद्ध करता है स्ट्राइकर का कार्य होता है गोल करना अर्थात गेंद को मारना। डिफेंडर का इस खेल में कार्य होता है कि वह विपक्षी दल के खिलाड़ियों से गेंद को बचाएं और उससे विपक्षी दल के खिलाड़ियों को आपस में ना जाने दे और मिडफील्डर का कार्य होता है कि विपक्षी दल के खिलाड़ियों के पास यद्यपि गेंद है तो उनसे उस गेंद को छीनना।
लेकिन यह जितने भी खिलाड़ी है वह गेंद को मारने के लिए अपने हाथ और कंधे का इस्तेमाल नहीं कर सकते हो वह सिर्फ पैरों और अपने सर का इस्तेमाल करके ही गेंद को मार सकते हैं लेकिन जो लास्ट खिलाड़ी है गोलकीपर वाह विपक्षी दल के गेंद को गोल होने से रोकता है जो गोलपोस्ट के पास खड़ा हुआ रहता है और यह खिलाड़ी अपने हाथ और कंधे का इस्तेमाल करके गेंद को रोक और पकड़ सकता है।
इस खेल में फाउल के नियम भी रहते हैं यदि कोई खिलाड़ी कॉल करता है तो उसको उसके कार्य के हिसाब से कार्ड दिखाया जाता है और उस कार्ड के तहत जो भी नियम लागू होता है वह उस खिलाड़ी को मानना पड़ता है। येलो और रेड कार्ड खिलाड़ी को दिया जाता है यह लोग कार्ड उस खिलाड़ी को दिया जाता है जो किसी खिलाड़ी या अंपायर के साथ गलत व्यवहार करता है तो उसे येलो कार्ड दिखाकर फुटबॉल कोर्ट से बाहर कर देते हैं।
रेड कार्ड उस खिलाड़ी को दिखाया जाता है जो येलो कार्ड के बाद भी अपने उस व्यवहार को सही नहीं करता तो उसे रेड कार्ड दिखाकर मैदान के बाहर कर दिया जाता है और वह दोबारा अंदर नहीं आ सकता और ना ही उसके बदले कोई अन्य खिलाड़ी उसकी जगह ले सकता है इससे टीम का एक खिलाड़ी कम हो जाता है जिससे दल को बहुत नुकसान झेलना पड़ता है।
फुटबॉल खेलने का तरीका
इस खेल को खेलने का तरीका ऐसा है कि हर दल में 11- 11 खिलाड़ी होते हैं और वह एक दूसरे को गोल करने से रोकते हैं तथा उनके पास से लैंड को छीनने की कोशिश करते हैं। यदि कोई दल गोल करने में कामयाब हो जाती है तो उस दल को 1 अंक प्राप्त होता है और इसी तरह यह खेल 90 मिनट तक चलता है जिसमें 45 मिनट के बाद ब्रेक होता है अर्थात 45- 45 मिनट के दो हाफ होते हैं।
जो दल इन 90 मिनट में सबसे अधिक अंक प्राप्त करती है वह विजेता घोषित होती है यदि दोनों दलों के अंक समान होते हैं तो इन दोनों दलों को एक्स्ट्रा गोल करने का मौका मिलता है यदि कोई जल वह गोल करने में नाकामयाब होती है तो वह यह प्रतियोगिता हार जाती है और उसका विपक्षी दल विजई हो जाता है।
सभी खेलों की तरह इस खेल में भी एक अंपायर होता है जिसे रैफरी कहा जाता है और उस रेफरी का निर्णय ही अंतिम निर्णय होता है यदि कोई खिलाड़ी रेफरी की बात ना मानकर उसे से गलत व्यवहार करता है तो उसे येलो कार्ड देखाया जाता है और वह कुछ समय के लिए मैदान से बाहर हो जाता है।
इसके साथ एक और रेफरी होता है जो उसकी सहायता करता है जब खेल को शुरू करना होता है तब एक टॉस होता है टॉस जीतने वाला कैप्टन यह तय करता है कि वह टीम पर गेंद से आक्रमण करेगा या किक मारेगा। जब कोई दल एक बार गोल कर देती है तो गेम को शुरू करने के लिए गेंद को मैदान के बीच में लाकर रखते हैं और फिर से खेल शुरू होता है।
